Heather Bailey’s new line. I’ve had this design on the books for a while and thought I’d try it out in this Summery, “nicey” fabric.

I’m off to a quilting retreat next week! I have so many fun projects, I can’t decide what to bring (maybe the result of a little too much fabric shopping:)

I think I have enough for 2 retreats!

Two “Jelly Girl” quilts ~ one full size in pinks and aquas

I just finished quilting a sample of my “City Stars” pattern. I love that it showcases a large print in the center. There are so many options for it!

You may notice that the large spray of flowers is not centered in the middle. So many times we painstakingly fussy cut our fabric - and I’m starting to find that center isn’t always best.

There’s a rule in visual arts composition called the “Rule of Thirds”. Here’s the definition from Wikipedia “The rule states that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines, and that important compositional elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections. Proponents of the technique claim that aligning a subject with these points creates more tension, energy and interest in the composition than simply centering the subject would.”

I’ve started to use this rule instead of centering the design of the fabric.

I mean really bad about putting labels on my quilts. Once that binding is sewn on, I want to be done and on to the next project. Our speaker at guild this week was Lisa Grossenheider, who presented a great program on labels. She offered some wonderful examples of creative labels.

Missing warm weather and sunshine, we took off to Florida last week. In addition to enjoying the break from Winter, I visited the largest quilt shop in Florida ~ Rainbow’s End and also found a new one ~ Sew Worth It! It was worth it for me. I found some great colorful fabrics to bring home.

I had a lot of fun picking these out. I’m making the Jelly Girl quilt and I decided to use a mix of fabrics from all the modern, new designers. The mix includes Amy Butler, Heather Bailey, Patty Young, Sandi Henderson, Tina Givens and My Mind’s Eye. It’s pretty wild, but I think it will be a nice potpourri of current fabrics.
